FAQ: Are your control methods safe for red squirrels and other animals?

Every effort is made to make our methods as safe as possible for other animals. Small birds and mammals can enter or leave the cages through the mesh, but occasional red squirrels or medium-size birds may be caught, although the placing of traps and the type of bait used (whole yellow maize) is intended to minimise this. Any animal caught unintentionally is released unharmed. Regular checking of the traps (minimum of twice a day, but more often in the longer days of summer) reduces the time non-target animals spend in the trap.
